Last week marked an exciting journey for the Hydrogen Safe team as we embarked on a trip to Tees Valley, determined to establish our footprint in this hydrogen hub. With the hydrogen industry flourishing in the region, we were eager to immerse ourselves in the community and contribute to its vibrant energy landscape.
Our first stop was Darlington College, boasting a cutting-edge engineering and construction facility. As we toured the campus, we had the pleasure of meeting the dedicated trainers and caught a glimpse of some of the students in the engineering workshop. We explored the facility’s 360 degree immersive room and experienced their Virtual Reality (VR) headsets. It was exciting to see a college utilising cutting-edge technology as a way of education. Learning about the college’s ambitious plans to become a Hydrogen Centre of Excellence in Heavy Goods Vehicle Transport (HGV) was inspiring. This initiative aims to address the region’s skills gap, aligning with Tees Valley’s vision to become the UK’s hydrogen transport hub.
Next, we ventured to HydraSun’s impressive new facility at the Teesside Industrial Estate. We had a full introduction to the business as well as a tour of the workshop and facility. HydraSun offer specialised technical training services and have recently developed hydrogen modules to accompany their training programme. We appreciate at Hydrogen Safe that collaboration is always the best solution and outcome and are looking forward to what lies ahead for us and HydraSun!
To complete our visit, we attended the Hydrogen Industry Leaders HIL100 Breakfast event at the King’s Hotel. This was a brilliant opportunity to connect with other likeminded enthusiasts and to understand more about the region’s hydrogen landscape and future plans.
As we reflect on our time in Tees Valley, it’s clear that this visit was just the beginning of our journey in the region. With each interaction, we are developing our vision of how we are contributing to a sustainable and thriving hydrogen economy in the Tees Valley region.
