Hydrogen Safe, the hydrogen safety consultancy and training provider, has developed a series of four bespoke e-learning modules for ARCADIS, the leading design, engineering and consultancy business, delivering innovative solutions across the world’s most complex infrastructure and environmental challenges.
As energy security, diversification and new energy infrastructure become increasingly important to clients and communities, Arcadis continues to invest in future-ready skills across its global workforce.
The new hydrogen learning modules are part of this ambition: helping Arcadians build the technical understanding, safety awareness and practical confidence needed to support clients as hydrogen and low-carbon fuels become a more important part of resilient, diversified energy systems.
Through ongoing collaborative consultations between technical experts from both teams, four modules were developed: Principles of Hydrogen Safety, Hydrogen Production Processes and Technologies, Hydrogen Transmission and Storage Solutions, and Low Carbon Fuels.
Furthermore, as a global business that operates across 70 countries, the content was translated into six languages, English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Brazillian-Portugese. The modules were formatted in a way that will give all 45k global employees of the company access to the information through Arcadis’ in-house LXP system, bringing a balance of academic and technical insight, along with practical application.
Used to upskill the Arcadis workforce, with any employee working on a hydrogen project required to complete the first module as mandatory, it will give the company a competitive advantage in terms of compliance and confidence when working with hydrogen.
Specialist Training Instructor at Hydrogen Safe, Neil Minshall, who developed the content, comments: “When we first met with the team at Arcadis, we were excited by the plans that they had, the commitment they place on hydrogen and the benefits it can bring to business.
“Developing bespoke training materials in several languages that can be accessed on a learning management system by all employees of Arcadis globally makes perfect sense, and so too does ensuring that the content is specific to the company and its objectives. Working in this way means that we can ensure the content will add the greatest value, not least as we see growing demands from the European hydrogen market.
“We look forward to developing this relationship further and to receiving feedback from those that have accessed the course content and applied what they have learned to their roles.”
Hendrik-Jan Bakhuizen, Global Director for Energy Transition at Arcadis comments: “For Arcadis, this was not about creating generic training. We wanted practical, technically robust learning that reflects the realities of our work with clients and gives our people a common foundation they can apply across markets and project contexts.
“Working with Hydrogen Safe allowed us to shape rich course material into bespoke modules that support our global teams and strengthen the confidence with which we engage on hydrogen and low-carbon fuels. I was very impressed by the course content, the technical detail that was shared, and how the team approach the bespoke e-modules.
“This is another step in how we are investing in future-ready capability across Arcadis – equipping our people to help clients navigate energy diversification, infrastructure transformation and the safe deployment of emerging energy solutions.”
The modules developed for Arcadis are now accessible to the public via Hydrogen Safe’s own Learner Management System, which can be accessed here: learn.hydrogen-safe.org.
