Protium is a green hydrogen energy company that designs, develops, finances, owns, and operates end-to-end green hydrogen solutions for clients across sectors including transport, mobility, construction, manufacturing, and off-grid power.
Protium commissioned Hydrogen Safe to deliver its Level 3 Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices qualification to a cohort of engineers.
Having connected through several industry events and exhibitions, our specialist hydrogen safety training instructors delivered the training at Pioneer I, Protium’s flagship green hydrogen plant based at the University of South Wales Hydrogen Centre in Baglan. The training certified Protium’s engineers, upskilling the workforce and providing valuable insight into the latest developments in hydrogen technology.
What’s more, those attending also gained a greater understanding of how electrolysers work, allowing the engineers to apply this knowledge to the safety protocols they implement when working on site.
Specialist Training Instructor for Hydrogen Safe, Paul Holland, comments: “Delivering the Level 3 Introduction to Hydrogen Safety Practices course to engineers at Protium was an opportunity to strengthen the competence that the team already have with an accredited qualification.
“During the session the delegates asked some really interesting questions that allowed us to explore the topic. Not only was this about sharing information but also providing insight into the latest developments in hydrogen technologies.
“It is no secret that the clean energy industry is evolving at pace, so using our training and qualifications to ensure that those that work in the sector have access to the most advanced training provision makes perfect sense.
“It was a pleasure to work with the team at Protium, and we look forward to doing more with them in the future.”
Area Operations Manager for Protium, Darren Thomas, comments: “When we met with Hydrogen Safe, we were very interested in the courses that they offer. This not only ensured our team received the most up-to-date training but also provided them with recognised qualifications to validate their knowledge”.
“Personally, I’ve completed several hydrogen-specific courses and found this training particularly valuable in sharpening my skills, helping ensure our work on Pioneer I and Pioneer II, Protium’s second major green hydrogen project currently in development, remains aligned with the latest HSE guidance and industry standards”.
“It’s important when you work in an industry like hydrogen that you continue to invest in training. The sector is changing at pace, and we want to ensure that our engineers remain at the top of their game and are the best in the business.
“As a company that designs, develops, finances, owns and operates hydrogen projects, we’re committed to upholding not just our values, but also our reputation.”
Pioneers in the UK hydrogen sector, leading the country’s transition to net zero, Protium is responsible for a portfolio of renewable energy projects. These include Pioneer 1, which opened in March 2023 and is producing up to 280kg of green hydrogen each week; and Pioneer 2, expected to produce 7,000kg of green hydrogen per week once operational.
