At Hydrogen Safe we are more than a specialist training provider. We have a vested interest in the transition to clean energy. That is why we have worked collaboratively, bringing together cross-sector policy experts, industry leaders and academics to create the Hydrogen Skills Framework for Greater Manchester.
As one of the UK’s first devolved regions, Greater Manchester (GM) is uniquely positioned to respond effectively to labour market demands to create high-paying jobs for residents.
It stands as a national exemplar in hydrogen innovation, leveraging strong policy frameworks, local agility, and a place-based agenda to accelerate Net Zero goals. The region’s leadership in hydrogen is reiterated by its approved Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Strategy and broader environmental policies.
Designed to support the delivery of the UK government’s Hydrogen Strategy, published in March 2025, the Framework complements the UK skills strategy launched by the Hydrogen Skills Alliance, which identified a need for strategic coordinated action, training, reskilling and mobility and to engage with local skills improvement plans and regional plans to fend off a widening skills gap.
Providing an analysis of the region’s labour and skills market, focusing on the changes that will be needed as businesses prepare and the country moves towards achieving Net Zero, it is one of the first to focus on occupational profiles throughout the hydrogen value chain.
